Welcome to Robbie Laing Racing

Robbie Laing is a licensed thoroughbred trainer based at Cranbourne, on the eastern outskirts of Melbourne

Robbie obtained his trainer's license in 1980 and is known for his exceptional horsemanship and ability to train both sprinters and stayers. Often regarded as "unconventional", Robbie is known to perform masterstrokes, such as his feat with Sir Pentire who he conditioned to win first up over 5500m in the 2009 Grand Annual.

His eye for a horse is second to none, harnessed from a young age, by his father and mentor, Eddie Laing who was also a successful trainer. His knowledge and passion for pedigrees, breeding and conformation is what has enabled him to achieve success at the highest levels, including Group 1 wins with Polanski (AAMI Victoria Derby), Roman Arch (Darley Australian Cup), Pantani (Adelaide Cup and SA Derby) and Perfect Bliss (Thousand Guineas).

Robbie has won successive Group 3 Maribyrnong Plates (2013 with Boomwaa and 2012 with Direct Charge), as well as successive 2YO Fillies races on Melbourne Cup Day (2009 with She's Got Gears and 2010 with Spectrolite). Each one of these horses were personally selected by Robbie.

In recent years Robbie Laing Racing has enjoyed success amongst the sprinting ranks with the flying Fastnet Rock mare Missrock racing at the highest level. She has won at Group level and is set for a big 2018-19 season.

Look out for the next generation as the likes of Thorondor, Master Rock, Zoumanor, Trufino and Tatiara stakes their claim as 3YO’s and feature in the upcoming carnivals.

Robbie's key ingredients for success include, patience, correct feeding, access to the outdoors (lush paddocks), water aquaciser, beach work and most importantly being hands on with every one of his horses on a daily basis. He breaks-in and educates his horses himself, teaching them the correct basic foundations in a calm and gentle manner.

"I believe in pushing as much into the horses as possible, whilst at the same time identifying the balance and knowing when the level is right".

Thank you for taking the time to explore our site. We invite you to come racing with us and look forward to sharing our journey with you.
